L'Artisan Parfumeur's Timbuktu - the eagerly awaited addition to the line is here at long last. And true to form, a stunner indeed.
As you've probably heard, this is an exotic and mystifying fragrance inspired by an ancient perfume ritual practiced by the women of Mali. Master Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour sniffed this out during his travels in West Africa. "Wusulan" is an indigenous art of perfume, traditionally handed down from mother to daughter and is purported to act as a magical spell that not only successfully entices and seduces one's target but also ensures that he'll not wander far afield. (If this were ours we'd insist on a patent.)
A rich and intoxicating aroma, Timbuktu begins with top notes of green mango which are complemented by pink pepper berries and cardamom. The heart is a dense blend of the precious karo karounde flower which bears an unmistakable scent of herbs, spices and flowers. Smoky incense and essence of papyrus wood make their presence known in the heart as well; the base of balms and spices, patchouli, myrrh and vetiver provides a fittingly exotic close and bewitching drydown. Timbuktu is a wild and thrilling and even dangerous potion that you'll reach for when pulling out all the stops is the order of the evening.
