Fou d'Absinthe, L'Artisan Parfumeur
L'Artisan Parfumeur's Fou d'Absinthe Eau de Parfum - is the latest entry in this stellar house's lineup of brilliant fragrances---arriving stateside hot on the heels of their annual summertime limited edition (Mandarine Tout Simplement to you) - and just when we'd decided they couldn't possibly conjure up yet another perfect potion. How silly of us.
Inspired by the infamous intoxicant that has felled its share of mighty oaks, Fou d'Absinthe is as bold and irreverent as you'd expect it to be---and it's also legal. Though we're incapable of leaving it alone and though we'd rather spritz it than loll on a beach in Maui, we're also relatively confident that we won't anytime soon find ourselves on the brink of madness. Or even delirium.
To the particulars: Opening with a crisp and green and appropriately bitter absinthe accord, the heart introduces a spicy cocktail starring star anise that somehow manages to feel both hot and cold---though the heat prevails in a sublime base of dried pine needles and smoky, woodsy cistus (known in some circles as false, or mock, myrrh). And we'll take myrrh any way we can get it.
Presented in L'Artisan's newly revamped bottle that is at once classic and modern (7 sculpted facets topped by a cap of pale gold zamac. Available in two sizes; simply select from the drop-down box.
