Sel de Vetiver, The Different Company
The Different Company's Sel de Vetiver - the sixth entry in The Luxury Collection from this devastatingly chic line, Sel de Vetiver is the inspired brainchild of Celine Ellena (progeny of Jean-Claude); if this elixir is any indication (and of course it is), the apple fell very close indeed to the tree. And as you can imagine, it is like no vetiver you've ever experienced.
Sel de Vetiver is breathtakingly beautiful, modern as it could possibly be, and a very welcome departure from the vetivers we've been sniffing since 1610. Nothing of the tried and true vetiver's pungent damp earthiness is to be found here; if you can possibly imagine, this is a vetiver at once elusive and assertive---ethereal and borderline delicate (which is not to say it's remotely shy or unassuming). Heaven forfend. We also detect a fleeting accord of sun-burnished, salty-sea-kissed skin; initially a bit different but ultimately quite perfect. Also quite sexy, come to think of it---
Not too terribly surprisingly, Ellena's brilliantly elegant amalgam of grapefruit, cardamom, geranium, Haitian vetiver, patchouli, iris and ylang ylang does not disappoint. In short, a very different sort of vetiver from a very different sort of company - a company that, fortunately for us, goes where others fear to tread.
