As one of Diptyque's hopelessly smitten customers, John Galliano realized it was only a matter of time before he would approach the renowned French candle wizards in his efforts to create a candle for his eponymous fragrance line. Two of his absolute faves are the “Feu de Bois” and “Myhrre” (the man has taste); needless to say, Diptyque was only to happy to oblige. In order to capture John Galliano’s vivid personality and his dazzling body of work, Diptyque has concocted a candle of unparalleled depth and mystery and sexiness. It's evocative of a blazing fire of birch and cypress and hickory in a Vermont ski lodge - reflecting the rugged and earthy but sophisticated and elegant nature of the designer - and his candle. At its heart is a voluptuous and wild woody accord, imaginatively offset by iris and topped off with vanilla and musk. Egad. The packaging of the Galliano candle incorporates both John Galliano’s trademark logo (English broadsheet with semi-Gothic characters on a sepia base) and, of course, the inimitable and brilliant Diptyque logo. The beloved and classic Diptyque oval surrounds Galliano's broadsheet, resulting in a disarmingly simple design alliance that does the candle proud indeed. Mr. Galliano has this to say: "Creating the candle was like going on a magical voyage. It has brought back the savor of numerous travels, real or imaginary, that I have done over the years – the fragrance of an orthodox church in Saint Petersburg, the scent of birch wood used in the American West so lovingly depicted in Edward Curtis photographs that I cherish in my collection.
