Pilar and Lucy: The Candle. - It's all too rare that a candle makes us melt as this one did...and at times it does seem as though we couldn't possibly ever again smell something new and spine-tingling...i.e., how many candles do we NEED in our already clogged and clotted lives? Well. At least one more.

A heady and robust jar of verrrrrrrrrry highly perfumed wax (soy, natch) - positively packed to the brim with - what? We asked lovely Victoria, the ballerina with a nose blessed with attitude and perhaps a pirouette or two, if she might see her way clear to sharing the recipe for this beauty. We assumed her first candle would be a paean to her first fragrance (The Exact Friction of Stars) but nay - her coyly shrewd response was "Well, actually, it's a blend of all three of my scents!" Aha!!

Cynics and skeptics abound here, sad to say - but after an hour of burning we were goners. Smitten. And yes, we certainly did detect a whisper of gardenia here, a fleeting and poignant glimpse of tuberose there; when the wind shifted we were treated to an elusive but definitely there and quite the assertive amber cloaked in coconut and orange and - could it be clove?.

But. For our money, this candle is all about vanilla and chocolate and amber and coconut---the real stunner being that Victoria's candle is unequivocally the first foody candle that is downright sultry as well. There's also a smidge of smoke somewhere in the deep dark soy soul of this bougie that's knocked our socks off. And that's saying something, since we rarely wear them.

Divinely decadent and deliriously delicious, if you're anything like us you'll want to drink this (but please don't). Wouldn't want to waste a drop.

As you can imagine, the presentation is spot-on---beige-y pinkish-brown wax poured into an appropriately classic glass, which sits in a box that's cleverly swathed in shreds of a black tutu (just kidding - more likely it's black tulle) and fastened with a large grey rose. The box bears the inscription: "...when the lights go down...everything goes quiet...the curtain opens... And from there you're on your own.
